The modern lifestyle has been promoting late-night culture with night shifts, all-night shopping, 24*7 availability of entertainment options, partying and hanging out till the wee hours. We have also accepted it as a new way of life and do not see any harm in it till one day a lifestyle problem hits us.
Sleeping late is the primary reason for not getting enough sleep. For those individuals who sleep less than six hours a day, because of wrong lifestyle habits, there is a 20% increase in the chance of heart problems and there is an 82% increase in the risk of stroke.
Poor sleep habits can also lead to other unhealthy habits like overeating, unhealthy food consumption, and the use of Intoxicating substances such as smoking, tobacco, alcohol, and drug consumption.
Decreased activeness in the daytime due to lack of sleep can lower motivation, increase stress, cause mood swings and cravings, and can impact our decision-making and productivity.
All of these factors impact our heart in a negative way.
Sleep is also related to our biorhythms, which control our heart rate as well as our blood pressure. Sleeping late at night can cause cravings of unhealthy food that lead to weight gain, insulin resistance, increased cholesterol levels and reduced liver function.
Sleeping is not a luxury. It is a necessity. Sleep provides time for the body to restore and recharge, playing a key role in nearly all aspects of health. Let's put it at the top of our priority list.
